About Us
Run Starved Rock Country is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting endurance tourism and fostering a vibrant running community in Starved Rock Country. Established in 2016, we aimed to give the Starved Rock Country Marathon a permanent home and expand the region’s racing opportunities.
Our Story
2017: Successfully launched the Samuel Adams Starved Rock Country Marathon on May 13, drawing runners from across the region.
2018: Introduced a well-received 5K, broadening the event’s appeal and welcoming runners of all experience levels.
2024: Celebrated the 10th Annual Marathon!
Our Mission
Run Starved Rock Country is committed to enhancing endurance tourism while supporting local projects that improve the area’s outdoor recreation opportunities.
Giving Back to the Community
A portion of proceeds from our events goes toward local initiatives:
2018: Donated $5,000 to the City of Ottawa for the canal re-watering project, creating a waterfront for paddle boating, running and cycling paths, winter ice skating, and year-round activities.
2019: Supported the Starved Rock Cycling Association’s Pumpkin Pie Race and the 10th Annual Runners’ Crusade 5K, benefiting Marquette Academy’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams.
Join us in celebrating fitness, community, and the natural beauty of Starved Rock Country.
Together, we’re building a lasting legacy for outdoor recreation and endurance events!
